Welcome to Apropos Aussies' home on the web! My name is Brett Winn. I chose Apropos Aussies as my registered ASCA "kennel name" because there are few occasions that my family and I don't find the inclusion of an Aussie to be "apropos"! My path through the Aussie world began with a pet Aussie in 1986 and eventually led to conformation showing, obedience training, herding, tracking and agility. I most enjoy obedience training, and that is where I'm currently concentrating my time and effort. Australian Shepherds are an intelligent and intuitive breed that thrives on interaction and communication with people.  I prefer dogs from working bloodlines. I find these dogs often have an intuitive and keen "edge" to their intelligence and personalities that for me, is a must.

We are currently training and/or trialing in competitive obedience, which I think of as to dogs as dressage is to horses. My goals are modest: to enjoy time spent with my dogs, to see how precisely I can refine our communication and performance, and to be a good steward of this magnificent breed. I breed rarely, but when I do, thoughtfully. I only breed dogs with OFA hip clearances of Excellent/Good and eyes CERFed clear. Temperament, intelligence and soundness are my foundation. I believe good temperament is a combination of genetics and environment, and I put a enormous amount of effort into raising well socialized puppies. Apropos puppies are extensively handled and methodically exposed to a wide variety of stimuli and environments including Early Neurological Stimulation and are temperament tested at seven weeks.

More than anything else, my dogs are a much loved and integral part of my family. I am happy to help newcomers with questions and concerns. And yes, that is a Border Collie that you see! She's the comic relief of our little group, my reality check and challenge to not take life so seriously all rolled into one lightening fast thirty-five pound little package!
